Baytown Public Safety Building
This
project
is
the
end
point
of
an
arduous
four-year
journey
that
took
the
city
through
exploring
moving
into
an
existing
12
story
building,
to
landing
on
building
a
new
facility
behind
the
current
building
and
demolishing
the
current
one.
The
new
Public
Safety
Complex
will
house
the
entire
Police
force
as
well
as
the
Fire
Administration
for
the
city
in
a
112,000
SF
new
three-story
facility
on
a
campus
that
includes
the
current
Courts,
Jail
and
EOC
buildings.
The
project
also
includes
a
31,000
SF
vehicle
maintenance
facility
and
two
10,000 SF Police vehicle storage buildings.
The
new
building
will
have
a
shared
lobby
and
community
room
for
both
Police
and
Fire.
The
Fire
Administration
will
occupy
a
portion
of
the
first
and
second
floor.
The
Fire
area
will
be
separated
from
the
rest
of
the
police
facility
to
maintain
CJIS
security
of
police
data.
The
Police
portion
of
the
facility
will
include
records,
domestic
violence,
patrol,
property
&
evidence,
special
operations,
criminal
investigations,
crime
prevention,
support
services
and
police
administration.
Staff
support
areas
include
lockers
and
fitness
as
well
as
a
full
kitchen
to
support
staff
during hurricanes.
A
new
31,000
SF
vehicle
maintenance
building
for
both
Police
and
Fire
mechanics
will
be
built
as
part
of
phase
one
to
move
it
before
the
new
public
safety
building
can
be
built.
Maintaining
operations
of
the
current
police
facility
during
construction
was
instrumental
in
the
location
of
the
new
facility.
The
third
phase
is
to
demolish
the
existing
facility
create
a
new
public
plaza,
vehicle
display
building
and
public
parking.
The
current
court
will
have
a
new
entry,
lobby
and
restrooms
to
replace
those
in
the
current
police
facility.
The
entire
30
acre
site
will
have
security
fences
and
gates
as
well
as
a
walking
trail
around
the
detention pond.
The
entire
facility
will
be
designed
to
withstand
hurricane
force
winds
with
such
items
as
impact
resistant
glass.
The
building
will
include
some
innovative
spaces
such
as
a
small
lobby
for
returning
property
that
is
separate
from
the
main
lobby,
a
social
media
space
that
has
a
green
screen
and
podcasting
areas,
and
a
drone balcony with nearby charging area.
The
project
construction
delivery
is
CM
at
Risk
with
Durotech
Construction
and
the
schedule
move
into
the
new
public
safety
Fall
of
2023.
The
Construction
budget
is
$60
million
with
a
$65
million
overall
project
budget.
